Getting Started

Welcome to SkyLog! SkyLog is a powerful, easy to use log book for sky divers. It allows you to store information about all of your jumps, and maintain a directory of the drop zones you use. SkyLog provides a number automatically compiled stats on your jumps, and allows you to calculate your own stats using up to four fields from the log!

Let's get started. The first time you start SkyLog, you are met with a prompt that says you need to add at least one Drop Zone, one Aircraft and one Jump Type before you can enter any jumps. Simply follow the instructions below to enter a these three things. Once you have these entered, you can then use these drop zones, aircraft and jump types when entering jumps into your log book

Adding and Editing Aircraft and Jump Types

Adding
To add jumps to your SkyLog you must first enter aircraft and jump types that you will use. To add an aircraft or a jump type, simply click on the Setup tab and then click on the appropriate button. Clicking either Add Aircraft or Add Jump Type will give you a prompt to enter the new value. Simple type the name of the aircraft or jump type in this box and press OK.

If, for example, the first jump you are going to add was from a Twin Otter, you would go to the setup tab, then press Add Aircraft. When the prompt appears, you would add Twin Otter and press OK. SkyLog will tell you that Twin Otter has been added. When entering jumps, Twin Otter will now be one of the available choices.

Editing
If you realize that you've entered an aircraft or jump type incorrectly, simply choose the appropriate edit button under the setup tab. Pressing the Edit Jump Type button, for example, will bring up a list of all the jump types you have entered. Select the jump type to edit from the list, and press Edit. This will bring up a text box where you can fix the jump type. Once it is correct, press OK to save it.

Please Note: If you edit a jump type or an aircraft, this edited version will appear for each jump that used the original aircraft. For instance, if you have 3 jumps using an aircraft you had entered as Otter, and you later edit that aircraft to be Twin Otter, then these three jumps will now show Twin Otter as the aircraft.

Deleting Aircraft and Jump Types
If you want to delete one of your Jump Types or Aircraft you can use the appropriate delete button for this. If you try to delete an aircraft or jump type that is in use by one or more of your jumps, you will be warned that removing the aircraft or jump type will result in removing all associated jumps as well. If, for instance, you have a jump type called Freefly and you have 6 jumps with this jump type, deleting that jump type will result in the deletion of those 6 jumps. This is necessary to maintain the integrity of the database. You will be warned before the deletions are removed in case you have made a mistake.

Adding, Editing and Finding Drop Zones

SkyLog has the ability to keep a directory of all your drop zones. If you travel to other drop zones, and want to contact that drop zone in the future, you will have information for the drop zone in your SkyLog. You can move through the drop zones by using the arrow buttons.

Adding
To add a drop zone to your SkyLog simply go to the drop zone tab, and click Add DZ. The minimum amount of information you must add is a name for the drop zone. All the other fields are optional. When you have finished entering the new DZ, simply click Save. If you decide not to add the drop zone after you've pressed the add button, simply click Undo

Editing
To edit a drop zone, simply locate the drop zone in your directory and press Edit. This will allow you to make changes to the drop zone. When you are done editing, click Save to commit your changed to the database. If you decide not to save your changes, click Undo to cancel the operation.

Finding
If you end up with a lot of drop zones in your directory, it might take a while to scroll through each drop zone looking for the one you want. Press find to locate a drop zone faster. This will bring up a find window. In the small text box at the top, type a few letters of the drop zone you are looking for. The list box below this text box shows an alphabetical list of all your drop zones. As you type letters in the text box, the list box will scroll to matching entries. When you have located the drop zone you want, double click on it and it will appear in the drop zone window of SkyLog.

Deleting
If you want to remove a drop zone from the database, bring it up in the drop zone area, and press the delete button. If you have any jumps in your SkyLog, you will be warned that deleting this drop zone will cause these jumps to be deleted as well. This is necessary to maintain database integrity.

Adding, and Editing Jumps

Adding
To add a jump, you must have first entered at least on aircraft, one jump type, and one drop zone. See the information above for help on this.

To add a jump, simply click the Add Jump button. The text boxes will turn yellow to signify that you can now enter information. If this is your first jump, you will be prompted for a jump number to start at.

Enter all the information about the jump. Use the drop down lists to select an aircraft, drop zone, and jump type. The only fields that are optional are the comments and equipment fields.

When you are done, press Save. If you decide not to record this jump, press undo to stop the operation.

Editing
To edit the jump currently shown in the Log Book window, simply click Edit. Make the required changes and press the save button. To undo the changes you've made, simply press undo.

Deleting
To delete the jump currently shown in the log book window, click Delete. You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete that jump. To continue, press yes.

The copy equipment choice

On the setup page, there is a check box that asks you if you want to copy equipment from the last jump to a new jump. If this is checked, whenever you press the Add Jump button, the equipment you used on your last jump will appear in the equipment box automatically. This saves you from having to type in all your equipment each time you jump. If you need to change it, simply modify the contents of the equipment box.

The Stats Page

The top section of the stats page displays ten predetermined statistics. The total free-fall time is calculated from the delay you entered for every jump. The most used aircraft and drop zones will show the aircraft and drop zones you use the most, and tell you how many jumps you have from each. If there is a tie for one of these fields, only one member of the tie will be shown.

Custom Stats

The custom stats section allows you find jumps matching up to four criteria. From the first column, select the field to search on, then in the drop down box, select an option or type an option in. If you select "Airplane Is","Drop Zone Is" or "Jump Type Is" as the field, the drop down box will automatically fill with the possible choices. If you would like to search for jumps between a certain date, pick a from and to date with the date selection drop down lists. This allows for three different types of searches. (1) Searches that match certain criteria, (2) Searches that match certain criteria during a certain date range, and (3) all jumps in a certain date range. To get all the jumps in a certain date range, leave the search options blank, and just select the date range and press Get It!

Printing

To print your log book, simply press Print on the main log book window. An option screen will allow you to pick all jumps, or only certain jumps. Make your choice, and press print. The log book will print to your default printer.
